The Basement Floor - the beginning
2014 mid-summer,
My wake-up call hit. We’d just welcomed our second daughter, life was busy, and I was working out of town for weeks at a time. My health slipped away from being on the road and sitting for prolonged periods—until one day, a sciatica flare had me stuck on the basement floor, unable to move or sleep... That moment of rock bottom changed everything.
The journey to recover wasn’t linear—there were setbacks. Trying different massage therapists, acupuncture, physiotherapy, chiropractors. It sucked to feel helpless. Eventually turning the corner on this, the one chiropractor mentioned my sore back was partly a symptom of my WEAK CORE. Ouch - truth hurts.
Around 2018 I got back into a better routine and lots about 20lbs and I was able to stay on track somewhat.
Fast forward to 2020 when the world shut down and HEALTH was topic #1. This opened my eyes up to what seemed obvious to me. Focus on your own health, Eating right, resistance training, daily movement, sleep/recovery. This was simple, just not easy to do consistently. But for the wellbeing of myself and family, prioritizing health/fitness was a way to improve the immune system. Wasn't that the goal for everyone? To not be sick? So, from there I continued to pursue a deeper dive into the fitness world.
This led me down a path: consistent daily actions, focusing on core strength, and pain-free performance. I became a certified trainer to better my own knowledge through NASM and also found the PPSC team. Further learning the pain free performance methodology. The idea that fitness has an end goal is not true, it's a race with no finish line. Just an ever-learning journey.
Now, in 2026, as a dad of three juggling 12-hour shifts, I’ve built my 7-week Dad Habits System course to help dads like me. If you’re feeling stuck like I was back in 2014, this is your helping hand—small, consistent habits, accountability, and pain-free strategies to last a lifetime.
